Course Objectives
• To give the participants a broad understanding of the environment and to help them in developing an understanding of how the governments are responding to various environmental issues
• To equip the participants with the best practices and the contemporary principles and practices of environment audit and to discuss issues and challenges being faced by various SAls in integrating environment audits with other audits.
• To take participants on a step by step journey through the process of environment audit and to equip them with the necessary knowledge and skill set to be able to conduct and supervise environment audits
• To provide a forum to the participants for sharing their ideas and experience with various experts in this field.

• Understanding the state of environment and the ecosystem
• Responses to the environmental concerns
• Natural Resource Accounting and allied concepts
• Environmental Auditing - the challenges
• Multilateral Environmental Accords and other international treaties and the audit issues concerning these accords
• Basics of wastes issues, waste handling and international agreements and related audit issues
• Air pollution issues, global warming and other concerns and related audit issues
• Audit of biodiversity and case studies thereon
• Basic concepts of Environmental Management Systems and introduction to ISO-14000 series
• Sustainable Development and the role of SAls
• Audit techniques including statistical sampling and Computer Assisted Audit Techniques
• Case studies.
Suggested Framework for Case Study
A broad framework for the case study could include the following:
• Organisation and system of environment audit and major environmental issues and threats being faced in their countries.
• Legislations, Policies, Rules and Regulations relating to environment protection. This includes both domestic legislation as well as names of important international conventions/protocols signed by their respective countries.
• Case study relating to environment audit covering institutional network for environment protection in the respective country (i.e., Ministries/Departments/other Agencies, both government and non-government, and their roles and responsibilities).
